Every Member a Disciple Maker
• Series: Every Member a Disciple Maker
If you have been around Rich Fork long enough, you have heard us talk about making disciples, discipleship, or being a disciple of Jesus Christ. This conversation, surrounding being a disciple, is important to us because it was important to Jesus. How do we know it was important to Jesus? In the book of Matthew alone, the word disciple, or disciples, is used seventy-four times! Matthew, the gospel writer, continually recorded the moments he had with Jesus and Jesus’s disciples (of which Matthew was a part), being called to go with Jesus, to learn from Jesus, to follow Jesus, and at times to be disciplined by Jesus. We see through the life of Jesus that disciples were not made at a distance. Jesus trained His disciples, lived with His disciples, and sent them out to make disciples. In Matthew 28:18-20, we see His command for all of us to pursue this same path. To be students, pupils of Jesus Christ, who take what we have learned, apply it to our own lives, and then teach others to do the same. We must be disciples of Jesus who go and make disciples of Jesus...this is not optional!
