Every Member a Disciple Maker Week 4

 • Series: Every Member a Disciple Maker

Every Member a Disciple Maker - Week 4 Last week, we addressed the fact that if we want to be effective disciples of Jesus Christ, then what we believe must determine how we behave. What we believe must be a lifestyle, not just something we do for an hour or two on Sunday mornings. This week we will look at the absolute most important aspect and question regarding that belief: “Who do we say that Jesus is? (Mark 8:29).” There’s no denying that since Jesus called his first group of twelve disciples to follow him, that they have at times misunderstood their assignment, confused their role, and lacked true belief. In large part, their lack of understanding of what it meant to be a disciple was not that they didn’t understand themselves, but that they didn’t understand their Savior. They didn’t follow the right path because they didn’t know fully who they were following. They couldn’t see the way because they didn’t know fully The One who is The Way. They were walking, they were attempting to follow, but they could not yet see clearly. Mark 8 specifically places the healing of the blind man’s sight in relation to the disciple’s spiritual eyes being opened to see a clearer picture of Jesus. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we too must have a clear understanding of who Jesus is. We cannot be blinded by our own wants and desires, our culture, or the sinful behaviors that we want to continue in. We must have a clear, true, and scriptural view of Jesus; who He really is. He is the Son of God, the suffering servant, who came to die, so that through Him, we might live for Him and His glory alone. Jesus paid the ultimate price to redeem and save us from sin. There’s nothing more the world can offer us than that! The question is, will we live for Him or for ourselves? Will we sacrificially to follow Him as He has sacrificially laid down His life for us?
