Everything Under the Sun Week 5
• Series: Everything Under The Sun
Solomon had a significant reign as King of Israel, and while king, he was the epicenter of wealth, society, politics, wisdom, folly, pleasure, and searching. Despite his possessing, “everything under the sun,” he repeatedly, fervently, exposed the meaningless of life in our sinful and broken world. He would often declare everything to be hebel, which is the Hebrew word for meaningless, vanity, futile, or a vapor. He has taken us down various streets with what he determines as dead-ends, yet in the first four chapters of Ecclesiastes, the teacher has taught us valuable lessons to learn from and not make the same mistakes. Releasing the temporary, and clinging to the eternal. He explored life, death, and eternal life. God is in control. Trust Him in every season. Examining our relationships and our level of envy vs. contentment. Now, in chapter 5, he is going to examine the attitudes and actions of those entering into the temple for worship. We were created to worship and fear the Lord, but how do we approach the house of God? Specifically, in a public place of worship? How do we prepare our hearts in reverence and awe as we enter into our time spent with a perfect, holy, and living God. Solomon will challenge us in chapter 5 to: guard our steps, listen more, speak less, and to fear a Holy God who desires a relationship with us.
