Everything Under the Sun Week 9

 • Series: Everything Under The Sun

This is the final week of our study in Ecclesiastes and there are still so many truths and lessons that we could all discover as we plumb the depths of King Solomon’s teachings in this book. Solomon (our teacher here) is most likely writing these words from experience, maybe even looking back on his life, full of everything under the sun, yet recognizing the foolish decisions of his past and the need to warn and to prepare others to focus on everything above the sun. As we study this book, God is perhaps trying to get our attention as well, to keep us from making the same mistakes? We have learned that the cross of Christ is our only hope and life apart from this is vanity.; life is a vapor. We have learned that God is in control and we are not; trust Him in every season. We have learned about life and death and that it is often in death that we fully realize the impact of a life lived; that life is best lived with an understanding of death through the promise of eternal life. We have learned about envy in this world versus contentment in Christ. Because of these truths, and many others from Ecclesiastes and the Bible, we are encouraged to live the life God has given us, in the community he has given us, with the resources God has given, with the Gospel in front of us. We also very clearly see that when we open the Word of God, we see His action recorded. We can listen to Him speak, and experience the fruit of obedience, or the impact of disobedience. As we conclude this study, may we see a few final lessons from Ecclesiastes and all of God’s word: this book, full of truths and profound transparency, given to us to bring delight, discipline, perspective, and preparation.
