Everything Under the Sun Week 3
• Series: Everything Under The Sun
During the first two weeks of this study, Solomon, our teacher, has laid out a foundation built around the fact that everything in life, apart from God, is meaningless, futile, or perhaps better stated, a vapor; a breath. Why is this? Because everything is temporary. God’s word repeatedly reminds us to hold on to everything under the sun loosely, while clinging to the hope and promises of heaven; that which is eternal. As we dive into week three, we begin to look at time, and the seasons of life that we all walk through, and how those seasons impact us all. For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven (1). Each of us must ask ourselves, "In the season that God has placed me in at this moment in time, am I trusting in self and the things of this world, OR, am I trusting in the eternal God of creation and the fact that He has placed eternity in my heart, regardless of how hard or easy, joyful or sorrowful, war filled or peaceful that season may be?" Seasons come and seasons go, but as we see in 3:14, whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it. As we study this week, keep this perspective in mind: we are not in control of the seasons of life that we go through; however, God is and we must learn to trust Him in them all.
