Everything Under The Sun Week 1
• Series: Everything Under The Sun
Oftentimes, what we need most, is a good dose of perspective. As we go about our daily lives in the world that we live, it is often so easy to get stuck on the "treadmill of life" and all of life's pursuits that can so quickly grab a hold of our hearts. We can pour ourselves into hobbies, careers, education, family, travel, and so many other things that seem good and pleasurable. We can also pour ourselves into sin, bad behaviors, unethical choices and many of the things that are clearly not good, but may present themselves as pleasurable in the moment. We can give our hearts away to the things of this world (both good and bad) in so many different ways. In Ecclesiastes, the teacher (most likely King Solomon) helps us to grasp that a pursuit after any of these things is vanity, meaningless, and a chasing after the wind. Over the next six weeks and twelve chapters, we will get that dose of perspective that we all truly need regarding our lives here on earth and what we are living for; what we are putting our hope in. Ecclesiastes will point us towards the one and only thing in life that is not meaningless and that is a relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ and the power of His Holy Spirit. The cross of Christ is our only hope, and the only thing we will ever pursue after under the sun, that is not vanity of vanities.
