For Unto Us Week 1
• Series: For Unto Us
Christmas 2023 is upon us. With the Christmas season comes the lines, the mall traffic, forgetting a present for someone and realizing it on Christmas day, ten different social events to attend, and kids having extra energy due to the excitement of the season. It is a time where we will all be very busy and perhaps forget, or miss out on, what Christmas is really all about. We state things such as “Jesus is the reason for the season”, but does the season allow us time to truly celebrate Jesus... to reflect on who Christ is in our lives? As we think about Christmas for this season, our desire here at Rich Fork is to help draw us back to the simple, profound, and powerful truth surrounding the arrival of a baby, a Messiah, a sacrifice, and a savior; God in flesh and dwelling among us. “For unto Us...” These three words begin to tell the story of the arrival of Jesus, hundreds of years before Mary gave birth to Jesus. “For unto Us...” These three words depict a God who did not serve us from a distance, but came to us in the flesh. Our goal this season is to slow our “Christmas brains” down and focus in on the details of “FOR UNTO US” to remind us of the truth, of not only the Christmas season we celebrate, but the gift of Jesus Christ every day of our lives. In order to get back to the basics of “FOR UNTO US...”, we will look at two questions this week: Why did Jesus come? For whom did Jesus come? Our goal in this is to keep Christ the focus and center of our Christmas season.
