Corinth was a city that had it all: Immorality, extreme wealth, pagan temples, which had extremely twisted practices. 1 Corinthians is addressed to people inside the church who are following the teachings of and placing their hope in Jesus Christ. It is a very young church that had questions; questions which Paul was bluntly and boldly giving them answers to. The church of Corinth had a legitimate "gray area" they were trying to navigate regarding their food; particularly the meat they would be served in the homes of their family and friends. We all have "gray areas" like this that we face in our current culture as well. The culture may change, but God's word remains the same and remains the place we can go for truth and direction regarding these topics.
